The Trenton Minor Sport Association was formed from the idea to build a rink in the Town of Trenton. In the 1960's Trenton Minor Hockey rented ice time at the New Glasgow stadium but in the 1969-1970 season there wasn't ice time available for them. This is when a committed group of gentlemen decided it was time to look at having their own rink. Although they were originally told by consultants that the Town of Trenton was not big enough for its own rink the Association decided they were big enough and went on to form a plan and quickly began executing their plan. They approached businesses in the town asking for their support and they went door to door asking families and residents to pledge money toward the construction of a rink. They were delighted with the support.

In November of 1971, the town gave them a parcel of land and they were off and running. Much of the work was done on a volunteer basis by trades people and others in the town. Aside from the financial support from the businesses and town's people a sizable loan had to be obtained; the Bank of Montreal in New Glasgow granted the loan.

In October of 1972 the rink was officially opened. Although many made the rink a reality, the 13 recognized here made a significant contribution to this project through planning, execution and most co-signed the bank loan using their homes as collateral guaranteeing that the loan would be paid off.

On March 31, 1975 the Trenton Minor Sport Association turned the rink over to the town free and clear of any debt. Their plan was fulfilled and their legacy lives on today in this very rink where generations of families continue to enjoy ice time.
