Your Town Council consists of a Mayor, and four (4) Town Councillors, each elected for a four-year term. Trenton voters elect the Mayor and Councillors, while the Deputy Mayor is selected and appointed through a Council motion annually. Councillors do not represent a specific district or ward, but rather each serves the Town as a whole.

Mayor Alec Dove

Deputy Mayor Scott Cameron

Year Elected to Council: 2024

Scott Cameron is a lifelong resident of Trenton. He and his wife Lorna raised their three children here and they are all residents of Trenton with their families. Scott and Lorna have six grandchildren, all boys.

After graduating from Trenton High School, Scott went to work at the “Car Works” for a few years. He left there to attend St. F.X. University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education Degrees. He is currently in his last year of teaching and will finish his career at Trenton Elementary in June 2025.

For many years Scott was involved in our community as a minor sports coach in softball and hockey, and he also served as president of these associations.

Scott has always actively participated in numerous community events and initiatives, the most recent being the new P - 8 school and the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame.

This is Scott's first time on Town Council and he is looking forward to serving the residents of Trenton over the next four years.

Councillor LeBlanc

Councillor Nicole LeBlanc

Year Elected to Council: 2020 & 2024

Nicole is a graduate of both St. Francis Xavier University and Mount Saint Vincent University and began her career helping bring the Pictou County Wellness Centre to life as the communication and fundraising manager. Once the Wellness Centre was up and running, she moved to Sobeys Head Office as a communications specialist, then worked for our Member of Parliament as the director of communications and since 2018, has worked as the project navigator for Healthy Pictou County - a grassroots physician-led effort attracting and retaining physicians, allied health professionals and students.

In her first four years on council, Nicole served on a variety of Town committees and efforts, and served on the Pictou Antigonish Library Board, the PARL Accessibility Committee, and the Pictou County Partnership Liaison Oversight Committee, which she has chaired since 2022.

Nicole has extensive experience in communications and working with others and enjoys spending time on projects and working with people who want to make our community better.

Nicole moved to Trenton in 2011 with her partner John, and they welcomed their daughter in 2022. She can often be found enjoying our Town’s green spaces and trails with her family, including their boxer, Tyson.

Councillor Stephanie Dickson MacKinnon

Year Elected to Council: 2024

Stephanie Dickson MacKinnon is a lifelong resident of Trenton with over 30 years of experience as a Registered Massage Therapist. She completed her training in massage therapy in Florida and now proudly runs her own practice in New Glasgow. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to helping her clients achieve wellness and relief through tailored care and therapeutic techniques.

Stephanie is married to David MacKinnon. Together they have raised two children and are now proud grandparents to a granddaughter.

With a strong passion for our community, Stephanie has been actively involved in various committees and groups, including the Trenton Garden Club, Trenton FunFest, and the Friends of Trenton Park Society. She has also supported recreational programs, such as the Learn to Skate initiative, and, as a teenager, worked in Trenton Park in roles like canteen service, maintenance, and equipment rentals, which deepened her appreciation for our beautiful park.

In her personal time, Stephanie enjoys gardening and taking long walks in the park with her dog, appreciating the natural beauty of our town. She looks forward to continuing to contribute to the growth and well-being of our community.

Councillor Donnie Cullen

Year Elected to Council: 2024

Donnie Cullen grew up in Trenton and has a long family history here. He has been an Electrical Engineering Technologist for nearly 20 years. Donnie lived and worked in Western Canada for 14 years and returned to Trenton in August 2017 as a solo parent with his 3 children Kaitlin, Kris, and Isaac.

Donnie graduated from Trenton High School Class of 1989. In 2005, he graduated from the Electronic Engineering Technician program at the NSCC Pictou Campus. In 2006, he completed the Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering Technology program from Cape Breton University (CBU). In 2021, he graduated from CBU with a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Manufacturing.

In 2007, Donnie started his engineering career in Calgary, Alberta in Oil and Gas Engineering designing electrical/mechanical construction documents for oil refineries and natural gas plants. He returned to Trenton 7 years ago where he currently works for an engineering firm as a project manager as well as designing electrical systems and performing building inspections for schools, military, and government facilities.

Donnie is a veteran of the Canadian Forces Army Reserve with 1st Nova Scotia Highlanders serving from 1988-1991. He has been involved in the community as a volunteer where he served as the School Advisory Committee Chair for Trenton Middle School from 2019-2023 and the Trenton FunFest Chair from 2018-2023. He looks forward to serving our community as a member of Town Council.
